Ramadan dhikr counter

A'ishah asked the Prophet what to say if she knew which night was Laylatul Qadr. This is the answer he taught her.

Look at almost any Ramadan poster, app or graphic and you'll find an extra word in it: كَرِيمٌ, kareem. It is not established.

IslamQA 260806, quoting Ibn 'Uthaymin, records that the word was inserted by a scribe or a modern typesetter, that dozens of hadith books transmit the dua without it, and that al-Albani corrected his own earlier printing. This counter ships the wording without it, and says so rather than quietly differing from what you've seen elsewhere.

Istighfar and salawat are the two that come up most, along with Quran and the ordinary post-salah tasbihat. Worth knowing before you set a number: none of them carries a Ramadan-specific count in the narrations.

So the counter uses the narrated numbers where they exist and says "no set count" where they don't. A Ramadan page that invents a figure for the last ten nights would be doing exactly what this site was built to stop.

Qiyam is long, the masjid basement has no signal, and the phone is often in a pocket or on a prayer mat rather than in your hand. Three things follow from that, and all three are already how the counter behaves.

What is the dua for Laylatul Qadr?

Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni. O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me. It's in Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3513, taught to A'ishah when she asked what to say if she found the night.

Should the dua include the word kareem?

How many times should I read the Laylatul Qadr dua?

No count is narrated. The hadith records what to say, not how many times. The counter opens with no target for it, so you set your own number or count without one.
