Open dhikr dataset

What's in it

21 dhikr phrases and the post-salah program, generated from the same file the counter itself reads. The published data and the running app can't disagree, because there's only one copy of it.

• arabic: the Arabic text, copied from the cited source.
• transliteration and english: how it's said, and what it means.
• narratedCount: the number the hadith gives, or null when it gives none.
• countNote: set where a widely used number is convention rather than narration.
• source and sourceUrl: the collection, the hadith number, and a link to it.
• grading: present wherever the grade isn't simply being in Bukhari or Muslim.

The null count is the point

Most dhikr lists online give every phrase a number. Many of those numbers aren't in the hadith at all; they're common practice that hardened into a figure through repetition.

In this dataset, a phrase with no narrated number has narratedCount: null, and countNote explains what people usually do instead. If you build on this data, you inherit that honesty for free. If you'd rather show 100 for everything, at least you'll be choosing it knowingly.

How to use it

Fetch it directly. CORS is open, so it works from a browser, a notebook or a server.

It's a static file behind a CDN, so hammering it costs nothing, but please cache for an hour rather than fetching per page view.

• Versioned with a plain version string and an updated date. Both are inside the file.

Corrections welcome, and they'll be public

If a reference or a grading here is wrong, write to help@tasbih.info. Fixes go in the dataset and get logged, dated, on the corrections page.

That log is the reason to trust the data over time. An error found and published beats an error nobody checked for.
