Privacy: what Tasbih.info stores, and where

What's stored on your device

Everything the counter remembers is saved by your browser, on the device in your hand. Up to 5 small records go in localStorage, depending on which features you use.

Finished sessions go somewhere else: an IndexedDB database named tasbih, with one object store inside it named sessions. Each record holds the dhikr's id and name, the count you reached, the target, when you started, when it ended, a row number your browser assigns, and a marker if the count was part of the post-salah sequence.

A record is written at the moment a count is retired: when you reset, when you switch to a different dhikr, when you start the post-salah sequence with a count already running, when the sequence advances a step, and when the sequence finishes. Closing the tab writes nothing, because the live count is kept instead so you can come back and carry on. A count of 0 is never saved.

That's the whole list. There's no account, no profile, no name, no email and no device id anywhere in it.

• tasbih.live: the count you're on right now. It holds the number, the target, which dhikr is selected, your place in the post-salah sequence, and the time it was last written. It's saved on every single tap, so a crash or a closed tab can't lose your count.
• tasbih.settings: your toggles and choices, including vibration, sound, speech, wake lock, text size, layout, bead material, privacy mode, tremor guard, streak display and optional reminders.
• tasbih.theme: one word, either light, dark or night.
• tasbih.wird: the recurring dhikr list and targets you choose for your daily plan.
• tasbih.multi: the rows, counts and targets on the multi-counter page.

Files kept for offline use

A service worker stores copies of the site's own files so the counter still opens when you have no signal. It saves the home page, the web manifest, an app icon and the favicon up front, then the JavaScript, CSS, fonts and icons it needs as you use the site.

It only handles requests to tasbih.info, it ignores every other address, and it only keeps files that came from this site. No counts and no history go in there.

What leaves your device

Your counts, your history and your settings don't leave. There's no login, no account system, no database and no code anywhere in the app that sends your data out.

The site itself has to be served from somewhere, and that somewhere is Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare sees the ordinary details of a request: your IP address, the time, which page you asked for, and what your browser reports about itself. That happens whenever any website loads, and there's no way to serve a site without it. Cloudflare's own logging is also left switched on for this site, so requests that reach the site's server code are recorded there. None of those records hold what you counted, because your counts never go near them.

If you tap a source reference in the info panel, you leave for sunnah.com or Quran.com and that site's policy applies from there. The link is set to send no referrer, so the destination isn't told which page you came from, and nothing about your count goes with you.

No analytics, no ads, no cookies

The app sets no cookies. There's no cookie code in it at all, and nothing it stores is used to identify you or follow you between sites. The entries listed above do the one job you opened the page for, which is to keep your count. That's why you see no consent banner.

The only cookie that could ever turn up on this domain is a security cookie from Cloudflare's bot protection. That one would come from the host, not from the app.

• No analytics. The app has 3 runtime dependencies: Next.js, React and React DOM. There's no analytics library, no tag manager, no tracking pixel.
• No ads. No ad network, no ad script, no affiliate code.
• No third-party scripts. The built page loads nothing from any other domain. Every script and style on it is the app's own.
• Self-hosted fonts. IBM Plex Sans and IBM Plex Sans Arabic are downloaded when the site is built and served from tasbih.info, so loading the page makes no request to Google Fonts.
• The count sound is made by your browser as you tap, not downloaded, and it's off by default. Nothing is recorded, and the microphone is never touched.

Permissions the app can use

Counting needs no permission. The app never asks for location, camera, microphone, contacts or Bluetooth access; a Bluetooth pedal works because it sends ordinary keyboard presses. Notifications are requested only if you choose to enable an optional reminder.

• Vibration. A short tick on each count, a double tick every 33, a softer one when you undo, and a longer pattern when you hit the target. You can turn it off in settings. Not every browser supports vibration, and where it's missing the app greys out the setting and says so.
• Screen wake lock. On by default. It asks the browser to keep the screen on while the counter is open, so it doesn't go dark mid-dhikr. It's released as soon as you switch away from the tab, and you can turn it off in settings.
• Persistent storage. When the page loads, it asks your browser not to evict this site's storage. Without it, iOS can clear a site's data after 7 days without a visit, which would wipe your history. Your browser decides whether to grant it.
• Notifications. Optional morning and evening reminders use the browser's notification permission. The request happens only after you enable a reminder, and you can turn the reminder off again in settings.

How to delete everything

3 ways, smallest to largest.

There's no way to delete a single session on its own. Clearing history clears all of it.

• In the app. On the History page, tap "Clear history", then tap again within 5 seconds to confirm. That empties the sessions store and leaves your settings alone. For the count you're on, tap reset twice on the counter. Reset saves that count to history first, so clear the history afterwards if you want nothing left behind.
• In your browser. Clear site data for tasbih.info. That removes the localStorage entries, the IndexedDB database and the offline cache in one go. The screen is usually under Settings, then Privacy, then site settings or site data.
• If you installed it. Uninstall it the way you'd uninstall any app. On most systems that removes its storage too. To be certain, clear site data first, then uninstall.

Children

The counter is for everyone. It asks for no age, no name and no account, and nothing about a user is sent to us, so there's nothing to gate.

There are no ads, no messages between users and no way to post anything. Source links leave the app only when you choose one, taking you to sunnah.com for hadith references or Quran.com for Qur'anic passages.

Dhikr data, GDPR and your rights

What you count and how often could say something about your religious practice, and GDPR treats data about religious belief as a special category under Article 9. That's worth taking seriously, so here's the plain description of the arrangement.

That data is created on your device, saved by your browser on your device, and never sent to a server. There's no copy of it on our side, so there's no processing of it for us to hold a lawful basis for.

The same fact answers the usual rights. Access, portability, correction and erasure are requests you make to whoever holds your data, and we hold none of your dhikr data. Control sits with you: the delete steps above remove everything, and your browser's site data screen shows you what's there.

The one exception is the hosting request data described above, which Cloudflare receives as the host of this site, the same as for any website.

If the site ever adds something that sends data off your device, sync and export being the two people ask for most, this page will say so before that ships, and it won't be switched on without you choosing it.
